Organising the funeral

Your loved one may have made their funeral wishes clear before their death, in which case you should follow these wishes as far as practically possible.

It is possible that the local funeral directors have received instructions from your loved one so don’t be afraid to contact them in the first instance.

If your loved one did not make their funeral wishes clear, they may have been contained in their Will or within a Letter of Wishes stored with their Will. If your loved one did not have a copy of the Will stored at home, contact their solicitor.

If you do not know who your loved one’s solicitor is, look for any evidence in documents that your loved one had or alternatively ask the local solicitors if they stored any Wills for your loved one.

The standard funeral costs roughly £3,000 and you should bear in mind how this will be paid for.
