I joined Hedges in 2017 as Director and Head of Employment. I am an experienced and pragmatic employment specialist with a particular interest in whistle-blowing, discrimination and education matters.
I act for a number of Independent Schools, Oxford Colleges, as well as several charities and care homes and am experienced in advising on all aspects of safeguarding, including PR and media management.
I am a skilled negotiator and have achieved significant settlements for individuals in whistle-blowing and discrimination cases, as well as exit packages for departing senior executives. For corporate and employer clients, I provide strategic advice on the risks of defending tribunal claims and actively seek to reduce costs during any litigation process. I have appeared at the Employment Tribunal, Employment Appeal Tribunal, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
I have a particular expertise as a result of my previous time with the British Medical Association and have been successful in various pay-protection cases for hospital doctors (Verma v Barts and the London NHS Trust, 2013, UKSC 20).
As well as contentious matters, I also advise on policies, contracts, handbooks, settlement agreements and other corporate documentation. I deliver training seminars and briefings on a variety of subjects including equality, diversity and unconscious bias, as well as maternity rights and flexible working. I am often asked to speak on BBC radio and have written several articles published in journals and the national press.
I am a member of the Law Society England and Wales and the Employment Lawyers Association. I am also current Chair of Trustees for a local drug and alcohol rehabilitation charity.
